Why world environment day is celebrated on 5th June?

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5th every year to raise awareness about environmental issues and to encourage action to protect the planet. The date was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 and has been observed annually since then.

June 5th was chosen as the date for World Environment Day as a way to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, which was held in Sweden from June 5th to 16th, 1972. This conference was the first global gathering to focus on environmental issues and marked a turning point in the way the world viewed and approached environmental protection.
World Environment Day is now celebrated in over 100 countries and is an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and governments to come together to take action to protect the environment. The theme of World Environment Day changes each year and is chosen to highlight a pressing environmental issue that needs attention and action.
In short, World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5th as a reminder of the importance of protecting the environment and as a call to action for individuals and organizations to do their part to help safeguard the planet for future generations.
